Common Microwave Oven Problems We Repair In Kolkata
From an oven that runs but won't heat to a keypad where only half the buttons respond — these are the calls that come in most across North Kolkata. Nearly all of them are a same-visit fix.

Microwave Not Heating
The timer counts down, the light and turntable work, but the food comes out cold. The break is somewhere in the high-voltage chain — magnetron, HV diode or capacitor — or a door switch or thermal cut-out is blocking the heat.
Book Visit @299
Sparking Problem
Flashes or arcing inside the cavity while it runs. Nearly always a burnt or greasy mica waveguide cover, or metal-trimmed cookware. Keep using it and the arcing can scorch the cavity wall and damage the magnetron.
Book Visit @299
Touch Panel Problem
The whole keypad ignores you, or the wrong function fires when you press. Usually a worn membrane keypad or its ribbon connector — and often repairable without replacing the entire control board.
Book Visit @299
Not Working / PCB Fault
No display, no light, no response at all. It could be a blown line fuse, a tripped thermal cut-out, a power-cord or supply fault, or a failed PCB. We find out which before quoting — a dead oven is not automatically a dead board.
Book Visit @299
Sound & Noise Problem
The noise tells us where to look. Grinding usually means the turntable drive or stirrer motor; a loud buzz or growl during heating points at the magnetron; a rattle is often just the tray sitting wrong.
Book Visit @299
Display Not Working
A blank screen, missing segments, or a display that flickers and resets mid-cycle. We repair or replace the display board and check the main PCB behind it, so the timer and power settings read true again.
Book Visit @299
Start Button Not Working
Everything lights up, you press start, and nothing happens. Usually the start membrane switch itself — or one of the door-latch switches the start circuit depends on before it will let the oven fire.

Symptoms our technicians see week in, week out — and what usually causes them.
Buttons & keypad
- PCB buttons not working
- Stop button not working
- 10-second / 10-minute button not working
When only certain keys die, the fault is normally the membrane keypad — the printed track under that one button has worn through — not the whole board. If every key is dead while the display still lights, we look at the ribbon connector and the PCB instead. Worth knowing, because the two repairs cost very differently.
Weak, uneven & intermittent heating
- Low heating
- One side heating / uneven cooking
- Heats once but not the second time
Weak heat usually means a tiring magnetron or a failing HV diode — often with a deeper, louder hum than normal. Uneven heating points to a stopped turntable or stirrer. An oven that heats once then quits when it's hot is the classic thermoprotector pattern: the cut-out opens as magnetron temperature climbs.
Door faults
- Door problem / not closing properly
- Door lock not working
- Door glass broken
Every microwave has three or four interlock switches the door must engage before the oven will fire. A worn latch, a snapped hook or a door sitting slightly out of line and it simply won't start. Cracked or broken door glass is a safety matter — stop using the oven until the door assembly is replaced.
Cooking modes not working
- Micro mode not working
- Grill not working
- Convection not working
On a combination oven the modes fail independently, which makes diagnosis quicker: no microwave heat but a working grill points at the high-voltage side, while a dead grill or convection points at that element, its relay or the fan. See convection microwave repair.
Electrical faults
- Short circuit / tripping the MCB
- Power cord problem
- Burning smell from the oven
An oven that trips your MCB seconds after start usually has a shorted capacitor, diode or magnetron drawing far too much current. A hot plug, scorched pin or frayed cord is a supply-side fault we replace before it turns into a fire risk. Stop using it and call — this one shouldn't wait.
Turntable & light
- Plate not rotating
- Light not working
- Turntable coupler broken
A plate that won't turn is the turntable motor, a worn coupler, or a roller ring clogged with old food — and it's also the usual reason food heats on one side only. A dead cavity lamp is normally just the bulb or its holder: inexpensive, and it makes the oven pleasant to use again.

Why Roy Home Appliances
Local, honest, and safe hands for high-voltage repairs
We're not a call-centre that dispatches strangers. Our workshop is on Nilachal Road in Birati — when you call, help comes from the neighbourhood.
Trained for high-voltage parts
A microwave's capacitor can stay charged long after the oven is unplugged — magnetron, diode and capacitor work needs training, not guesswork.
Independent & multi-brand
One trusted team for every major brand — solo, grill, convection and built-in ovens alike.
One flat ₹299 visit charge
No inflated call-out fees. The visit cost adjusts into your final repair bill once you approve.
Genuine parts & warranty

A note on "authorised"
We're an independent repairer — not a brand service centre
Authorised centres are often slower and pricier. As an independent multi-brand workshop we reach you faster, charge less, and still fit genuine spare parts. Being honest about what we are — that's the point.

Transparent Pricing
One visit charge. Zero surprises.

Microwave oven repair in Kolkata — FAQs
Straight answers to what customers ask most — pricing, common faults, safety, and how we work.
How much does microwave oven repair cost in Kolkata?
The doorstep visit and full diagnosis is a flat ₹299, adjusted into the final bill if you go ahead. The repair depends on the fault — a door switch, fuse, turntable motor or waveguide cover is a low-cost fix, while a magnetron, high-voltage capacitor or control board costs more.
The technician inspects the oven and gives you an upfront price before any work begins.
Why is my microwave running but not heating the food?
If the turntable turns and the light works but food stays cold, the fault is in the high-voltage heating circuit — most often the magnetron, the high-voltage diode or capacitor, or a faulty door switch that cuts heating as a safety measure. These need a technician to test and replace safely.
Why is my microwave sparking inside?
Sparking or arcing in the cavity is usually a burnt or greasy mica waveguide cover, or metal/foil and metallic-trimmed cookware in the chamber. We replace the waveguide cover, clean the cavity and check for internal wiring damage so it's safe to use again.
Only some buttons on my microwave work — is the whole PCB gone?
Usually not. When a few specific keys stop responding — start, stop, or the 10-second and 10-minute quick keys — the fault is normally the membrane keypad, where the printed track under that button has worn through with use.
If every key is dead but the display still lights up, we look at the ribbon connector and the control board instead. The two repairs cost very differently, so it's worth diagnosing properly rather than replacing the board by default.
My microwave won't start and the door doesn't lock — what's wrong?
A microwave has three or four door interlock switches that must all engage before it will run. A worn latch, a broken door hook, or a door sitting slightly out of alignment will stop the oven starting even though everything looks fine.
We test each interlock switch and the latch assembly and replace what has failed. If the door glass is cracked or broken, stop using the oven until the door is repaired.
Is it safe to repair a microwave myself?
No. A microwave's high-voltage capacitor can store several thousand volts, and on an oven that has stopped heating that charge can remain long after it's unplugged — which is the very fault most people call us about. The magnetron, diode, capacitor and transformer should only be handled by a trained technician with the right tools — this is one appliance where DIY is genuinely dangerous.
The turntable has stopped rotating — can you fix it?
Yes. A plate that won't rotate is usually a failed turntable motor, a worn coupler, or a roller ring jammed with food debris. It's a common, affordable fix — we replace the motor or coupler and test the rotation.
Do you repair convection and built-in microwaves too?
Yes — all types: countertop (solo and grill), convection, and built-in microwaves, across Samsung, LG, IFB, Panasonic, Whirlpool, Godrej, Haier and Bosch, using genuine spare parts. We're an independent multi-brand repairer, not an authorised service centre of any one brand.
Is it worth repairing my microwave or should I replace it?
A good rule of thumb: if the repair costs less than about half the price of a comparable new oven, repairing is the economical choice — most faults like door switches, fuses, turntable motors and waveguide covers are inexpensive. If both the magnetron and the control board have failed on an older unit, replacement may make more sense, and we'll tell you honestly.
Are you an authorised service centre?
No — and we're upfront about it. Roy Home Appliances Service Care is an independent, third-party repair service, not an authorised service centre of any brand and not affiliated with any manufacturer. That's why we're faster and more affordable, while still fitting genuine spares and backing the work with a warranty.
Which areas do you cover, and is there a warranty?
Our workshop is in Birati, North Kolkata, so we reach nearby localities fast — most with same-day doorstep visits across Birati, Dum Dum, Madhyamgram, New Barrackpore, Sodepur, Baranagar, Salt Lake, Bidhannagar, New Town and Lake Town.
